My 2 Step Process to Endless Content Ideation
In today’s letter you’re going to learn my 3 step process to endless content ideation.
This process was originally inspired by Dan Koe’s 7 Days to Genius Ideas & over time it has been iterated to fit my own style. This process ends the agony of struggling to come up with ideas to write about. I save not only time but brain energy as well.
Therefore if you are struggling with content ideation, you might just simply be overthinking it.
Why You Can’t Ideate
1. You don’t document your life
2. You don’t consume quality content
3. You don’t do anything with your life
4. You believe your ideas are “too dumb”
I’ve been there before with 1 & 4, although, when you only have 2 & 3 to work with content ideation can still be very tough.
This is why it’s important to document your life & take imperfect action. If you believe your ideas are “too dumb”, you’ll never progress within the digital content economy.
Capture Ideas
You must capture.
It’s the only way you can remember certain aspects. It makes content ideation much easier as you won’t have to constantly come up with something to write about.
You can simply capture:
Thoughts
Ideas
Experiences
Stories
Quotes
By capturing these different factors, you’ll reduce your overall stress when it comes to content ideation.
You’ll go from having the problem of having nothing to write about, to having too much to write about.
For example, let’s say you are watching a Joe Rogan podcast.
Joe Rogan is speaking on a topic regarding bears & how they can contrast from each other.
He speaks on polar bears & mentions how fierce & dangerous they are as these bears struggle to find adequate food.
On the other hand, black bears can be friendly at times.
Black bears won’t always attack on sight, unlike polar bears.
You can use this simple topic as a piece of content to educate people on the different types of bears & how to protect themselves.
You can also use this topic & address it as a metaphor to explain how some people are always fierce & hungry while others are more laid back & attentive.
Expansion
Now what’s the point of capturing ideas if you’re not going to expand on them?
Take for example; Naval Ravikant, Dan Koe, Ryan Holiday. Their punchy ideas go viral for one simple reason.
They expand.
Their punchy ideas are original.
They use their own documentations & capturings to deliver the value they deliver.
You can do the same.
Simply ask yourself;
Can I provide a bullet summary of this situation?
What problems have others faced within this?
Is there a relatable story behind this?
This makes it much easier to expand on your capturings as you are now providing depth behind this idea.
It now has a bigger meaning.
You can use all your answers to evolve your original idea into an original work of art.
Punchy one liners have never been easier.
Revision
In essence, it’s very simple.
Content ideation is the easiest part when it comes to being a content creator.
You just need to do the work & document your thoughts.
