From Handstand to Handstand Push-Up in 1 Day.

3 Steps to Learning Any Skill.

I recently unlocked a wall-assisted handstand push-up.

The same day I unlocked it, was the same day I could barely hold an assisted handstand. It may have been because of the fact that I simply learn things in a quick manner.

Sure it’s wall-assisted, although how many people can really do this?

I learned how to do this following my personal 3-Step Skill Acquisition Framework.

This framework allows you the innate ability to learn & pick up any given skill with tactical efforts. That muscle-up or that photoshop project you’re looking towards performing is only 3 steps away.

Although, most people can’t learn new skills for a few disappointing reasons.

Primary Reasons

They don’t seek out new information

They take in the wrong advice

They don’t put in any effort

They do things half-way

If you’re not seeking out new information, how can you expect to learn more about the given skill? Nobody can master a skill. Skills are always in need of constant improvement.

Lebron James might be considered top 3 in NBA history, although he’s not a master. In life, you can never master something. You must always iterate.

Aside from this, you can’t take in the wrong advice as this will hinder your growth.

You’ll lose days, weeks, months or years of effort simply because you followed the wrong advice.

Pick a Skill/Interest

You need to pick a skill/interest that you personally would like to do for the long term.

If you’re a person who hates numbers but you take up a project for accountants, you’ll despise every single minute that passes by trying to learn the maneuverings for this project. If you like sports but you take up a project with gaming, you’ll despise it. You won’t relate to the project in any which way.

For me, I chose a handstand push-up.

An advanced calisthenic movement most people can’t do, although aspire to perform.

A movement that requires you to push your bodyweight upside down with your bare hands.

Hands that weren’t designed to be stood on.

Learn the Foundations

Before you ever try to do something advanced, make sure you already have a great understanding of the foundations.

If you’re learning photoshop, you need to learn how to use shapes, text, gradients, etc.

For me, I got the hang of muscle-ups, pike push-ups & handstand holds before taking on the handstand push-up.

Given the fact that this movement requires a lot of shoulder strength it only made sense for me to get the hang of everything else.

Constant Iteration

Now that you got the hang of the basics, all that’s left for you to do is simply practice the advanced project itself.

You’re almost there!

It’s important to consistently practice not only the advanced project itself, but also the foundations.

The more you master the foundations, the easier it will be for you to perform the advanced project.

Therefore, the more I practice the foundational building blocks to a handstand push-up, the easier it will become for me to rep them out & eventually perform them unassisted.

Revision

In order for you to master any skill/interest, you need to put in the constant work.

I didn’t achieve this calisthenic milestone without prior experience & work.

I was an athlete since the 4th grade. I’ve been into sports, weights & calisthenics since middle school.

Sure I got a great headstart, although it’s never too late for you to learn.
