I Threw my Airpods into the Abyss.
3 Benefits to Ditching your Airpods.
I get it.
It’s 2023. Everybody & their mother owns a pair of AirPods. It’s natural nowadays to be listening to music 24/7.
You just can’t resist.
Whenever you find the chance you decide to plug your airpods in & begin listening to your favorite playlist.
While it doesn’t seem like a bad thing to you, I believe it is.
My Experience with AirPods
I’m a guy who loves to listen to music.
I won’t deny that. Anytime I had the chance whether it was when I was working out, working on something, or simply relaxing, I would take my airpods out & plug them in on full blast.
Disclaimer: I’m not a guy who listens to rap or anything absurd. My eardrums sufficed.
On the other note, I would lose my AirPods all the time.
I’ve gone through almost 10 sets of Airpods & each time I purchased a new one, I said to myself;
“I won’t lose them this time.”
If you can only guess, I lost them every time I said this to myself.
I eventually decided enough was enough.
I’m not going to purchase any more of these sets.
Therefore, the day I stopped buying new ones was the day I found out that my constant airpod use was a hindering way of distracting myself.
To this day, I do not use AirPods throughout the day & I won’t be purchasing AirPods anytime soon.
It’s been about a year or so up to the day I’m writing this, in which I have not used or purchased AirPods.
So far, here are 3 productive benefits I gained so far without them.
Presence
Ever since I quit using Airpods, I’ve felt much more present in the moment.
Instead of succumbing to quick dopamine, I feel as if I am more present in the moment. Before, I would feel like I was in a different world considering the fact that all I could hear was my music.
However, without this music, I feel present in the world.
I listen to the movement of the leaves within nearby trees.
I hear birds chirping.
I hear dogs barking.
When I’m talking to somebody, I listen to them & them only.
I’m not listening to music while I’m talking to somebody.
I’m not listening to music while somebody is talking to me.
I am instead present & prepared for anything that comes my way.
Live in the moment
Awareness
Ever since I quit using Airpods, I have become more aware of my surroundings.
When I step foot into nature, my eardrums aren’t surrounded by Coldplay or Marc E. Bassy. My eardrums are instead surrounded by the nature & wildlife around me.
If someone or something is running through bushes, I can hear it.
If somebody comes crashing down from a tree, I can hear it.
This goes for any other setting as well.
If I am walking around my neighborhood, I can hear a car pass by.
I can hear people talking.
Worst case scenario, I can hear anybody creeping up on me.
This is important not only in the daytime but at nighttime as well.
Money
Last but not least, you guessed it; I save money.
Truth is, I don’t want to keep purchasing something I know I’m going to eventually lose. There’s no point in purchasing Airpods at this point simply because I’ve already lost about 10 pairs of them.
It would just be ignorant to tell myself;
“I won’t lose them this time.”
Especially considering the fact that I am so used to a life without this form of cheap dopamine.
Ask yourself, what do you keep spending money on?
Is it necessary?
Revision
In essence, AirPods are no longer a part of my life.
As much as I used to love them, they serve me no purpose. I find myself to be much more productive. I find my life to be of the utmost quality compared to when I used to use them on a consistent basis.
Bullet Summary
For those who skip to the end, here’s what we covered;
0. My Experience
1. Presence
2. Awareness
3. Money

I used to struggle with content ideation.
Nowadays, I have far too many ideas to write about.
All because I used these 3 simple practices save hours ideating with minimal effort. 🧵
